A month and a half after the accident, the Hercules aircraft case has two investigations underway

The first case is linked to the fatalities from the accident, which left 23 people dead. The investigation was opened for the crime of negligent homicide and initially involves four individuals, including members of the aircraft’s crew. The second case is related to the alleged commission of the crime of theft of money that was being transported on the aircraft.

A month and a half after the tragic crash of the Hercules C-130 aircraft in the city of El Alto, the case has two investigative proceedings underway: one for negligent homicide and another for the alleged theft of money following the accident, the State Attorney General, Roger Mariaca, reported this Friday.

“With regard to the Hercules case, in the department of La Paz, there are two important proceedings in the full investigative stage,” the authority stated at a press conference.

Mariaca explained that the first case is linked to the fatalities from the accident, which left a total of 23 people dead. The investigation was opened for the crime of negligent homicide and initially involves four individuals, including members of the aircraft’s crew.

“This process is in the preliminary stage and all necessary steps are being carried out to clarify the facts,” he specified.

The second case is related to the alleged commission of the crime of theft of money that was being transported on the aircraft. According to Mariaca, statements are being taken from various individuals as witnesses, as well as from representatives of the company in charge of the service and from the Central Bank of Bolivia, the entity responsible for transporting the valuables.

“With certainty, the departmental prosecutor of La Paz or the line prosecutors will report on the progress of these investigations,” he added.

The accident occurred on Friday, February 27, when a Hercules C-130 aircraft of Transportes Aéreos Bolivianos (TAB), under the Bolivian Air Force (FAB), ran off the runway at El Alto International Airport.

The aircraft traveled nearly one kilometer out of control before crashing into the rear section of the airport terminal, plowing into vehicles traveling along Costanera Avenue and affecting pedestrians who were in the area.
