Thanks to public support, the first day of the blood donation campaign collected donations from 247 people, ensuring medical care for those injured in the tragic air accident in the city of El Alto. Staff from the Hemocenter – Departmental Reference Blood Bank of La Paz reported that the effort will continue this weekend and again called on donors to participate.

The campaign will take place in the Miraflores area, in front of the Thorax Hospital, from 08:00 to 19:00 throughout the weekend, Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1.

During this day, the Minister of Health and Sports, Marcela Flores Zambrana, visited the La Paz Departmental Hemocenter to donate blood for those injured in the air accident that occurred in El Alto.

Sweden’s ambassador, Johanna Teague, also joined the solidarity campaign, donating blood for those affected by Friday’s air accident. “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something,” her press statement reads.

Requirements to Be a Donor

  • Individuals weighing more than 50 kilograms and in good health.
  • Between 18 and 60 years of age.
  • Must carry an identity card.
  • Must have eaten before donating.
  • If the person has tattoos or piercings, at least 12 months must have passed since they were done.

As of Saturday, the Government reported more than 30 people injured as a result of the FAB military aircraft accident in the city of El Alto. The affected individuals were transferred to different health centers, making each donation vital to ensure immediate medical care and save lives.

How to Help

Upon arriving at the donation site, health personnel will verify that donors meet the requirements and will safely guide them through the procedure. The public may also help by sharing the information with family and friends.

“Each donation can make a difference in the recovery of the injured,” authorities emphasized, inviting all citizens to join this solidarity initiative.
