The Ministry of Education introduced changes to the scheduling of winter vacations for the 2026 school year, establishing that there will be no single nationwide date, according to Ministerial Resolution 01/2026.

The Vice Minister of Regular Education, Juan Carlos Pimentel, confirmed that this year each region of the country will determine when the pedagogical break begins and ends, based on its own conditions.

According to Article 9 of Resolution 01/2026, winter vacations will last ten working days, and their implementation will depend on climatic conditions as well as other factors specific to each region.

District education directorates, in coordination with departmental education directorates and health authorities, will be responsible for determining the specific dates of the pedagogical break in each department.

The regulation establishes that this measure will apply to all modalities of educational provision, with the aim of adapting the school calendar to regional realities and preventing health risks for students.

With this provision, the Ministry of Education decentralizes the scheduling of winter vacations, placing decision-making for the 2026 school year in the hands of local authorities.
