Bolivian Athletes Who Stood Out in 2024 | Deportistas bolivianos que destacaron el 2024

This year has been significant for Bolivian sports outside of soccer, with remarkable achievements across various disciplines showcasing the talent and dedication of our athletes.

Before December ends, El Deber Sports takes a look back at the most outstanding moments in Bolivian sports in 2024, a year full of emotions and achievements.

The Paris Olympics

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Bolivia was represented by four athletes: marathon runner Héctor Garibay, swimmer María José Ribera, swimmer Esteban Núñez del Prado, and sprinter Guadalupe Tórrez. Although no medals were secured, their participation brought pride to the nation.

Esteban Núñez del Prado was the first to compete, taking part in the 200-meter individual medley. While he didn’t advance to the next round, his effort was commendable. Guadalupe Tórrez shone in the 100-meter dash, advancing to the next stage and finishing eighth in the final.

María José Ribera delivered an outstanding performance in the 50-meter freestyle, proudly representing Bolivia. Finally, Héctor Garibay concluded Bolivia’s Olympic journey in the marathon, finishing among the top 60 competitors.

Mariano Aguilera, National Motorsport Champion

Santa Cruz driver Mariano Aguilera clinched victory in the fifth round of the National Rally Championship, securing the Bolivian title in the RC2 group. The event was assessed by Codasur officials to potentially become part of the South American Rally Championship in 2025.

Additionally, Bolivia’s rising generation of drivers deserves recognition, including standout names like Marco and Bruno Bulacia, Sebastián Franco, and Eduardo Peredo.

Juan Carlos Prado Among the World’s Best

Nineteen-year-old Juan Carlos Prado, a tennis prodigy from Santa Cruz, achieved the top spot in the junior world rankings and was selected by the ATP to train with the top players in professional tennis, including Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex De Miñaur, and Andrey Rublev. Prado currently ranks 288th in the global standings.
