Long distance runners Héctor Garibay Flores and Jhoselyn Camargo Aliaga head the list of the delegation of six Bolivian athletes who will run, on December 31, the traditional San Silvestre pedestrian event, which will be held in the main streets and avenues of the city of San Pablo, Brazil, with 15 kilometers of route.

The 98th San Silvestre will have: Garibay, Camargo, Carla Rosales, Rubén Arando, Víctor Aguilar and Josué Muriel on the starting line, reported the Bolivian Athletic Federation (FAB). Of the six distance runners, Garibay made history by reaching third place in the 2021 edition of this race with a time of 45.15. That same year, Camargo placed seventh with 55.22.

Due to the results obtained inside and outside the country, Garibay and Camargo have become the face of the long-distance events, both know the São Paulo circuit and will have the Africans and Brazilians as their main adversaries.

Garibay, for his part, is assured of his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after reaching the minimum mark in Spain this year, so the race in San Silvestre is part of his preparation. Between now and the Olympic competition, the Oruro athlete will focus on his training. He reported that he will not run any marathons and will participate in events of shorter distances.

Meanwhile, Camargo (La Paz), winner this year of the Medellín Half Marathon, in Colombia, with 1h14.14 and the 10K San Isidro, in Argentina, with 33.40, is working on obtaining the minimum mark for Paris 2024. In the Seville Marathon, Spain, on February 18, she will go for this goal.

Behind these icons of Bolivian athletics, there are long distance runners with good technical and physical conditions who will try to surprise in San Pablo: Rosales from Oruro, Arando from Potosí, Muriel from Santa Cruz and Aguilar from Cochabamba. After years, the Bolivian delegation is large for the San Silvestre test.

With two weeks ahead, the training pace is decreasing, after completing a demanding job, with hundreds of kilometers traveled per week in each training session.
