Santa Cruz is heading for its 27th day of strike
Calvo: “We maintain the indefinite strike and remain alert to what happens in Parliament regarding the law for the census”
After the 72-hour deadline given by the last plebiscite, the civic president Rómulo Calvo went out to speak to the people of Santa Cruz
The president of the Santa Cruz Civic Committee, Rómulo Calvo, ratified this Wednesday night that the indefinite strike that takes place in Santa Cruz in demand for the census will continue until Supreme Decree 4824, which sets the date of the Population and Housing Census for on March 23, 2024, be approved into law in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP).
“We maintain the indefinite strike and remain alert to what happens in the national Parliament regarding the approval of the law, accepting that the measures on this specific aspect are assumed in a coordinated manner by this Inter-institutional Committee,” Calvo announced from the outskirts of his domicile at the conclusion of the 26th day of indefinite strike.
The announcement of the maximum civic leader occurred after the 72-hour period determined by the council on Sunday, November 13, where a massive number of citizens gathered, who approved the five consultations carried out by the civic entity.
At the beginning of the statement, backed by the civic leadership, Rómulo Calvo assured that “the totalitarian desire of the Government intends to silence the people of Santa Cruz just for thinking differently from the hegemonic project of the central level.”
“The masismo in power cannot accept that in this territory we value life, work and progress. They do not admit that we are inclusive with facts and not with speeches, their political dogmatism does not let them understand that in this department their strategy of fighting races does not work because we have been integrated for many generations and that we do not discriminate against anyone,” he asserted.
Later, the civic made a clear message for the measure adopted, “Santa Cruz is not an enemy of Bolivia, but Santa Cruz is Bolivia, which is the synthesis of Bolivianity.”

El presidente del Comité Cívico cruceño, Rómulo Calvo, ratificó la noche de este miércoles que el paro indefinido que se cumple en Santa Cruz en demanda por el censo continuará hasta que el Decreto Supremo 4824, que fija la fecha del Censo de Población y Vivienda para el 23 de marzo de 2024, sea aprobado en ley en la Asamblea Legislativa Plurinacional (ALP).
“Mantenemos el paro indefinido y quedamos en alerta a lo que ocurre en el Parlamento nacional respecto a la aprobación de la ley, acogiéndonos a que las medidas sobre este específico aspecto sean asumidas de manera coordinada por este Comité Interinstitucional”, anunció Calvo desde las afueras de su domicilio en la conclusión del día 26 de paro indefinido.
El anuncio del máximo dirigente cívico se dio después del plazo de 72 horas que determinó el cabildo el domingo 13 de noviembre, donde se concentró una multitudinaria cantidad de ciudadanos, quienes aprobaron las cinco consultas realizadas por el ente cívico.
Al inicio del pronunciamiento, respaldado por la dirigencia cívica, Rómulo Calvo aseguró que “el afán totalitario del Gobierno pretende acallar al pueblo cruceño solo por pensar diferente al proyecto hegemónico del nivel central”.
“El masismo en el poder no puede aceptar que en este territorio valoremos la vida, el trabajo y progreso. No admiten que seamos inclusivos con hechos y no con discursos, su dogmatismo político no los deja entender que en este departamento su estrategia de lucha de razas no funciona porque estamos integrados desde hace muchas generaciones y que no discriminamos a nadie”, aseveró.
Después, el cívico dejó en claro un mensaje por la medida adoptada, “Santa Cruz no es enemigo de Bolivia, sino que Santa Cruz es Bolivia, que es la síntesis de la bolivianidad”.
