Humberto Vacaflor, El Diario:
A harmful inheritance
The Bartolinas have asked the cocalero Morales not to get involved in the electoral campaign, the peasant leader of Oruro Johnny Rocha, (of the MAS), asks that Morales be expelled from the party, the president of deputies, Sergio Choque, says that the cocalero would have to defend himself only before justice. But also the former number 2 of the MAS, Santos Ramírez, says that “the pedophile would not have to return to parliament.”
The coca grower says he distrusts David Choquehuanca, his party’s current vice presidential candidate. And he also says that Eva Copa, president of the Senate, is “selfish and sold.”
In short, it is a party in an accelerated process of dissolution, but there are some of its members who have decided to think ahead, hoping to save something. Adriana Salvatierra herself has admitted that the MAS made many mistakes.
A party that seeks its future, but a future, preferably, not linked to drug trafficking. That is the anguish of those who would like the MAS to continue to be an actor in Bolivian politics.
Therefore, they want to cut the link that the MAS has with drug trafficking. And they want to do it even if that cut went through the neck of the cocalero Morales.
Choquehuanca represents the indigenous “non-coca growers.” This has been accentuated even by Felipe Quispe, when he said that his followers were not coca growers.
It is not that being a coca grower is synonymous with crime. Is that, from Chapare, where 96% of coca goes to drugs, to be a cocalero is to be a drug trafficker.
The experts who have consulted the MAS heirs say that the negative factor of the party, at this moment, is its connection with drug trafficking. Something that until recently was not a problem, but now, when Bolivians have decided to repudiate this activity, they know that they have no future if they do not break that bond.
In this way, the leaders of the Chapare are becoming isolated. Choquehuanca, a non-coca grower Aymara indigenous, is marking the future.
And then Santos Ramírez arrives, who says that the coca grower Morales betrayed the party and the country and proposes a new political instrument. Eva Copa, disqualified by Morales, is the standard-bearer of this masista cause, which consists of freeing that party from its heavy stain.
The cocalero Morales knows all this. He knows that his candidate is going to lose, and that now it will be known, with precise numbers, what the MAS is worth without fraud. It was fraudulent leadership.
Perhaps that is why he intends to kick the board. He would like a war to break out, for there to be no elections. But it seems that it is too late.
