Against the people – Contra el pueblo

Editorial, El Diario:

The COB and the MAS against the people

Many times, in the history of the last sixty years, there was the criterion of the people that partisan politics and the organization of workers – as is the case of the MAS and the COB – could be considered forces with a mission: defend the people and not compromise in situations that violate their rights. And that both entities would always act in unison with the urgencies of the people who trusted in the possibility or certainty that they were fighting against all injustice, against what was plotting against their unity and prestige. That they were entities that, jointly with other political-partisan forces, would act in concert with the population in defense of the nation and its interests. But what has been demonstrated in recent days by the Central Obrera Boliviana and the political party MAS – which follows the directives of former coca grower president Evo Morales – is the opposite; it was believed that they, as political-labor organizations, would act according to principles and norms whose supreme objective is to defend the freedoms and rights of all Bolivians without any distinction. How much misunderstanding and deception about what was only a lie and appearance, since they are far from being servants of the nation.

The country, more than ever, needs to have its financial means to combat the pandemic that causes so much damage and urged that funds be allocated to build hospitals and provide them with what is necessary; it was even necessary to build cemeteries to bury victims of the virus and money was urgently needed to import special equipment that will make it possible to fight more effectively against the coronavirus that, it is seen, will not stop in its lethal action of collecting victims that not only fill the cemeteries but also occupy sites available for agriculture and that today must be invaded to bury corpses. And nothing is possible to do because, by decision of MAS parliamentarians, the Legislature has decided that there is no money available from loans from international entities that were destined to fulfill obligations in favor of the community. The COB, in conjunction with masista leaders, blocked all government action and has decided a strike that paralyzes everything, that there is no oxygen or drugs to combat diseases, that everything that the government has available is blocked because it seeks that the TSE “respect the call to elections for the month of September,” when that instance has decided that the voting process will take place on October 18, which, according to the process of fighting the pandemic, could be extended to another date.

The conduct of both – COB and MAS – is, therefore, contrary to the Bolivian people and the fight against the pandemic, and contrary to all the interests of the nation that fights valiantly against an evil that threatens to have no end. The strike and other acts contrary to the common good will only affect the country and will conspire against the entire community; it is, therefore, irresponsible behavior and it would deserve exemplary punishments in accordance with the provisions of the law.
