El Diario reports:
Cerro Rico de Potosí sinks in 60 meters
The Cerro Rico de Potosí recorded a sinking of magnitude at the top of the mountain that has a radius of 30 meters and a depth of 60 meters.
This situation occurs prior to the visit of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) mission.
The president of Potosi Civic Committee, Jhonny Llalli, confirmed that the second sinking in the Cerro Rico of Potosí is a crater of the approximate size of two small soccer fields.
In spite of the inconvenience, the miners of the cooperatives continue with the massive exploitation of the mineral. The Departmental Federation of Mineral Cooperatives of La Paz (Fedecomin) discharges responsibilities.
It is frustrating and infuriating to watch this government, who controls ALL State Powers, do absolutely NOTHING!
Cheap demagogue of someone who bragged about being the defender of mother nature, did nothing to actually mitigate and remediate this damage to the highest Bolivian symbol we have.
The Cerro Rico brought wealth to the Spanish Crown and boost mercantilism worldwide during our colonial years. Now, it’s been sacked by a gang of predators, whom, with the “excuse” of being poor, mine this heritage to the point of destruction!
The populist demagogue’s only concern is to remain in power … he destroyed our institutionality, wasted over $160 billion dollars without creating sustainable jobs, there is no real investment while narcotrafficking and smuggling of goods eliminate our industry and legal businesses.
The crumble of the Cerro Rico only shows what we had to endure over the last eleven years under the worst ochlocracy ever!
