Pay for not working
The Inti Raymi company has denounced that, in record time, the justice system has accepted that 21 of its former employees be immediately reinstated to their functions. The problem is that they have no functions to fulfill. The Inti Raymi gold deposits were depleted in 2015 and the company’s productive activities closed. All the workers received their social benefits, but taking advantage of a politicized justice, 21 of them presented a Provision, which was accepted.
As a result, they have continued to receive their wages, even though they do not work. According to the company, each of them has earned one million Bolivians in the last five years. Their dismissal was attempted again last November, but in January they have been replaced in their nonexistent positions, again by a suddenly efficient judicial system.
The case of Inti Raymi is very illustrative of the business climate that the country is experiencing: today, as we know, virtually a company cannot fire an employee. La empresa Inti Raymi ha denunciado que, en un tiempo récord, la justicia ha aceptado que 21 de sus extrabajadores sean reincorporados de inmediato a sus funciones. El problema es que no tienen funciones que cumplir. Los yacimientos auríferos de Inti Raymi se agotaron en 2015 y las actividades productivas de la empresa cerraron. Todos los trabajadores recibieron sus beneficios sociales, pero aprovechando de una justicia politizada, 21 de ellos presentaron un Amparo, que fue aceptado.
A partir de ello, han seguido recibiendo sus salarios, pese a que no trabajan. Según la empresa, cada uno de ellos ha ganado en los últimos cinco años un millón de bolivianos. En noviembre pasado nuevamente se intentó su desvinculación, pero en enero han sido repuestos en sus inexistentes cargos, otra vez por un repentinamente eficiente sistema judicial.
El caso de Inti Raymi es muy demostrativo del clima empresarial que vive el país: hoy, como se sabe, virtualmente una compañía no puede despedir a un empleado. Ahora resulta que no puede hacerlo ni siquiera cinco años después de haber cerrado operaciones productivas.
